Comments?

So I got a lot of email from my first post, but nobody dares comment. All good. If you emailed me, I'm glad you even got an opinion but damn, why can't you just put your thoughts in comments so we can chop it up? Don't be scurred.

And props to those who actually found my email address.

Come on, post comments.

  2. Okay. I'll comment on this post. Someone just posted it over at HCR (www.holyculture.net/forum) for responses. You can read my immediate thoughts there. My screenname is Gloria and that's my real name too(ha)

I think you've made some interesting points. I'll address each briefly.

"Truth #1 - Not all of you are really believers! (COLLECTIVE GASP!)"
That's not really shocking. Not everyone attending church every Sunday singing the choir and passing out food to the widows and orphaned is a Christian either. The tares grow with the wheat. Read Matthew 13 starting at v. 24...

"Truth #2 - Some of you are just straight up pimpin the culture of hip hop!!!"
Honestly that first paragraph or so seems like some personal stuff that I don't know the details about. Too vague. I will say that people wanting shine is nothing new either. Sinful man is usually seeking ways to glorify himself instead of God. It is what it is.

Truth 3: (see response for #2) AND really a semantics thing mostly. ever heard of "internet radio?" Also, you're probably right about the quality. I don't listen to any and really only know of one (Wade O) and I've never listened to that one either...

    Truth#4: You're probably right again.

Synopsis-You're pretty good at pointing out the sin of other sinners. Just remember that "Christian" isn't synonymous with "perfect." The sin you're pointing out is why Christ died to justify us in the first place. Not saying his grace is a license to sin, but I'll put it in the words of Andre 3000 "What if I looked at you in a microscope/saw all the dirty organisms/Living in your closet/would I stop and would I pause it?" Everyone is bound to slip up and do something wrong. Some don't slip at all. They dive into sin. So then, if I examined you in the way you're examining them, would I FIND anything that's off? If so, you're in need of a savior just like all these FUGAZI rappers you're discussing.

    Christ is King.

    PS. Hey Vic.

  3. hey sam:

    (1) i'll bite but ... what is there to comment about? humanity is a fallen race, dude. lol! those of us who follow christ are fallen, and those who don't follow christ are fallen. why do you think He had to be crushed and flayed? the only difference is that some have accepted God's plan of redemption and some haven't. and those who have are at different stages of their walk with christ. you seem to have an abundance of immature believers around you, so i'd encourage you, if you're really interested in having a balanced perspective, to get around those who are mature: that is, those who are humble, who love christ above all, who aren't caught up in "church culture," who actually LIVE the Word, and who don't trust their flesh. otherwise, you'll keep getting exposed to only one side of things. but maybe that's what you want.

it's cool to point out faults (though you only seems to be familiar with certain segments of this hip hop subgenre, who shall remain nameless here) ... but what's your point? what's your purpose? why do you spend your valuable time writing this to begin with? what's your agenda?

i'm not in the least offended with anything you say here and i, too, know more dirt than i'd like to (both of believers and unbelievers) ... i'm just wondering what the point of the blog is. will the blog decrease the number of christian hip hop fam that exist? do you have a personal interest in the sanctification of others? hopefully you can answer this.

    (2) what do you have against christ? you say you're not a christian; in other words, you don't follow Him. why not? it seems you know enough to know christ's worth isn't limited to the fallible humans you deal with. so what's your reason?

do you know of another who even claimed to pay sin's penalty? if so, who? please tell me about him.

do you think you won't have to give an account at the end of your life for your sinning against a holy God? if this is what you think, then how is it that our current life here on Earth includes much accountability ... yet suddenly there won't be a judging for the way you lived your life as a whole? The existence of God is obvious, just like you can look at a sculpture and know someone had to have made it. so what makes you think the Creator of the universe doesn't have a standard and will judge us against it in the end?

thanks for any responses you can offer.

  4. VIC, send me an email address, I will respond.

  5. Glo, thanks for sharing.

Glo you said that Truth #1 is not all that shocking? It is to those of us who ain't believers. That's part of the problem I see with yall, you disassociate yourselves with what and how WE think. I don't think like you, therefore I do think yall are perfect. I spoke to a friend, she said, "yeah we should be walkin like we ARE christian cause people like you always watchin. It's biblical." I trust my friend so I'll let that be my response.

ON truth #2, again I don't think you're looking at how I'm seeing things, how someone like me, a "non believer" sees things. And that's part of the problem. someone like me don't wan go to church to be around people who are just like me. People in my world always seekin shine, no humility. If I'm gettin that here why do I need to get it there? And why do your artists/radio personalitys/preachers seek it so hard?

#3, I said it, some are doin it right so no need to respond here.

    Truth#4, thanks.

To respond to your synopsis, again, i no nobody perfect, I know that. But your people act like they are and then don't wanna talk about it. Instead they hide behind bible verses that show that "yeah we human" and "yeah we fall". don't preach and act like you perfect when we all know u aint. That's my problem. I ain't pointing no one's sin out, according to your beliefs, I'm a sinner. all good. Just speaking on what I see in my world and how it grates on me.

And again, i already said I'm a sinner so lookin at me will only show you what I already told you I am...and what some of you are.

  6. LOL HI EVE,

See this is exactly what I'm talking about. Judgement. You start out all good, "We're fallen humanity, etc." Then BOOM!!! "Maybe that's what you want." Judgement.

LOL why must I have an agenda? I'm just speaking my mind. In some very real ways I dig the holy hip hop music. In some cases I dig the messages and the vibes and the purpose. But I hate fakeness so I'm just talking about it. I hope that's enough of a reason to have a blog. But other than sharing, no real agenda. Nothing I say will make a difference. Not a little bit.

"will the blog decrease the number of christian hip hop fam that exist? do you have a personal interest in the sanctification of others? hopefully you can answer this."

Um, no and no. Those are my answers. Maybe my agenda is to keep it real. So manny rappers say that but fake it. I also want to vent, and I think I said that all in my first post.

I got nothing against Christ. It's Christians I have a problem with. I don't follow him by choice. Not here to talk theology. I don't very much care if there's another who "paid a price." I'll leave that up to you folks who study these things. I'm just talking about an ethic of the hip hop culture, realness. And many of your people are fugazi!
